Well, I cant help typing this entry while sitting in the lib without AIR-CON.
Yes, I would like to talk about AIR-CON.
In Japan, heater is widely used in almost all indoor areas. Classrooms, library, shopping malls, buses, train (with heater directly below ur seats) and even the toilet seats have heating. So its rather comfortable to survive in the winter time but sometimes I felt too warm in shopping malls that coats must have to be taken off.
Ok, time flies, and its now Summer. Well, maybe for Japanese the summer hasnt started yet coz for them, real summer starts after the 梅雨rainy season ends. But these two days, the temperature is soo high that it reaches 30 degree celsius.
What is so strange that they dont turn on air-conditioning, at least in schools, even in canteen and lib. (Now, I am in the lib and I try to sit right in front of the fan...)
I asked my Japanese frd that why no air-con in canteens. She told me a very environmentally-friendly reason-to save electricity. I originally thought it was due to the earthquake so energy-saving campaign is carrying out throughout Japan. But she told me that in this school, usually we dont turn on air-con unless its very hot, as she said schools should be role models in saving energy.
Thats so true. Not kidding. Japanese students do follow, except the classrooms in the international student center, classrooms in other faculty buildings usually dun turn on AIR-CON. This morning I had a Eng Lit class and I was the one who asked the teacher to turn on the AIR-CON. Dont blame me coz I rode 30-min bicycle to school and was dying under the sun!
Then I remember CU, the air-con free bus. I always think that its just a PR skill to advertise a school, to boost how environmentally friendly our uni is. Compared to here, it does further deepen my thought abt it. (But I do believe less is more and it does help protecting the environment.)
Well, wt i said above cant represent the whole Japan and all Japanese, but what i wana say that no wonder this school and the students from this school are highly praised. (This school is one of the best ten in Japan and the best in Kyushu area)
I do learn a lot from this school. and every time local people ask me which school u study, I always proudly say 九州大学, and they all give me the same answer: 頭がいい! You are so smart! hahahahaa...!!! hahahahaha!! ( actually my gpa is so low that i cannot go to Tokyo uni for exchange... but i never tell them hahahah)
九州大学 I love you! I will come back and visit you some day!
